+1 Is dig acceptable, for DNS issues? (Yes, I'm joking. I'm always surprised that on a mailing list supposedly populated by NETWORK ENGINEERS AND OPERATORS, people report outages without any actual output from ping/traceroute/dig/similar, mentioning the city and not the AS, etc.)
