I am seeing 50% or greater packet loss across wireline (DSL/broadband) services and AT&T wireless services across multiple circuits in TX, NE, OH, and IL. Are others seeing any similar behavior? I am seeing reports across hundreds of locations. Thanks! -Raymond

Co workers in Prairieville have no service either, this isn't just a Livingston parish outage. I'm getting reports lots of Baton Rouge is down as well. Governor JBE is reporting it is due to a flooded switch location on Choctaw in BR. ATT is reportedly bringing in equipment from 'out of state' to attempt to restore service. If your friends have internet, they should be able to access Google Voice, Skype, WiFi calling, etc. Good luck out there. Shame on AT&T for committing to have learned their lesson from Katrina for having single points of failure bringing down their entire network. It's that exact reason that I still maintain alternate providers and modes of communications. Day 3 and still no phone AT&T service (landline (copper) or cell) at my in-laws in Denham just south of I12 at Juban. My Verizon phone could receive calls but not make calls last night about 10pm CDT there. I could send and receive texts, and data worked. We've seen no ETR provided by AT&T for that area. -bb On Sun, Aug 14, 2016 at 12:44 PM, Keith Stokes <keiths@neilltech.com> wrote:

Sounds like the local CO and a wireless site or two is/was under water. That seems forgivable. What isn’t is one CO taking out multiple states. That’s the same Katrina failure; “Bell” Main in NO failed, taking down SS7 for the LATA. Sounds like the re-engineering moved that same single point of failure to another CO and included a few other LATAs in the process. As far as we know, it was a single flooded CO on Choctaw that is responsible. We have heard zero information from AT&T as to what the cause is or the ETR. They simply state 'we have technicians staged and are working on it'. They brought in cell towers on wheels into Baton Rouge but couldn't reach Livingston because the roads were flooded. The roads have been opened for about 16.5 hours now and service is still down. A little more transparency by AT&T would go a long way. If your friends have internet, they should be able to access Google Voice, Skype, WiFi calling, etc.
Good luck out there.

I am seeing 50% or greater packet loss across wireline (DSL/broadband) services and AT&T wireless services across multiple circuits in TX, NE, OH, and IL.
Are others seeing any similar behavior? I am seeing reports across hundreds of locations. Thanks!

It might make sense for AT&T to develop a mobile barge/boat-based cell tower, given all the flooding. If they can put a cell tower on wheels, they can put one on a boat, make it float, secure it with extendable legs. Or talk to Google about a temporary Project Loon hovering in the sky over the area. Or Softbank. http://gizmodo.com/5909392/japans-softbank-carrier-unveils-earthquake-proof-... http://www.marketplace.org/2012/06/08/tech/fcc-considering-plan-launch-float... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Peter Beckman Internet Guy beckman@angryox.com http://www.angryox.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________ Outages mailing list Outages@outages.org https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/outages

Put the existing trailer(s) on a boat when needed. We know how to move equipment around in water. In fact, entire industries are built around it. ;-) On Aug 17, 2016, at 11:23 AM, Peter Beckman <beckman@angryox.com<mailto:beckman@angryox.com>> wrote: On Tue, 16 Aug 2016, Ben Bartsch via Outages wrote: As far as we know, it was a single flooded CO on Choctaw that is responsible.
