Seems like a DNS issue. None of their DNS servers respond to direct lookup requests (a.ns.facebook.com, b.ns.facebook.com, etc), their self-registrar with NS records for the domain is down, and you can get an error page to load by visiting the last A record IP for their site (157.240.229.35) in a browser. Mailing list is seeing a lot of duplicate messages about this outage. Reporting seems to indicate that Facebook’s BGP routes have been withdrawn. I’d suggest further discussion on the issue move to outages-discussion as the outage is well known and widespread. Somebody on Twitter said that the CEO of Cloudflare said that all of Facebook's BGP routes "had been withdrawn", but that Tweet wasn't from any particularly reliable source. From everything I've seen today, it's an issue with BGP. They've misconfigured something, and all of their peers have been pulled. Messages to this list are still late arriving... I haven't seen my own posts to the list return to me yet. The message that I'm replying to, sent at 9:15 -0700, is the most recent I've received. What could this list/outages.org have to do with Facebook being down? What else is going on? Here's what I'm seeing from one of my aws instances. Internal AWS dns server is fine, but public dns servers are giving errors:

DNS issues seem to be the case in Europe as well. I ran a check on most major DNS servers Including google, cloudflare and digitalocean) and does not seem to get a valid response.
