I don’t see the point of sending this in the outages mailing list. Best, Tanner Ryan <https://tannerryan.ca/> canadatechguy@gmail.com <mailto:canadatechguy@gmail.com>

It's getting ridiculous really. If your end users are really complaining to you that much about Facebook you have other issues. Bringing this to the outages mailing list is not the proper place. - Mike Bolitho On Tue, Nov 20, 2018 at 7:52 AM Tanner Ryan via Outages <outages@outages.org> wrote:

Well if that doesn't include Facebook I don't know what does. Facebook.com is #3 in the world on a day to day basis. In emergency cases it's very useful. However I do have to agree - the "me too" posts get kind of annoying. Once we've got a few posts and an idea on locality of the issue I think individuals can leave the thread alone. Gentlemen, some of you complain more than help. To judge the criticality of a service for other businesses is simply ignorant. An issue with a service as vast as FB could certainly be related to carrier services... As you all know, Cloud/SaaS services have evolved to a degree in which outages have a larger impact on businesses today than ever before and thus this list, like it or not, has also evolved.
From what I'm aware of the US is currently experiencing issues with FB, Instagram and LastPass. The latter is impacting business for us. Coincidence? Maybe. The root cause will certainly be interesting.

This was 10 days ago. Take it to outages discussion... The point of this main list is to report outages. For the record: you're also complaining instead of helping.... 🙃 On Nov 30, 2018, 09:28, at 09:28, "Andrew R. LaPour via Outages" <outages@outages.org> wrote:

I would encourage everyone to revisit the info page for the outages mailing list found here: https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/outages
"The purpose of this list is to have a central place to lookup and report so that end users & network operators know why their services (e-mail, phones, etc) went down eliminating the need to open tons of trouble tickets during a major event. One master ticket - such as fiber cut affect xxx OC48's would suffice. We hope this would empower users and network operators to post such events so that everyone could benefit from it. "
The list is for reporting outages on carrier networks and has grown to cloud services (AWS, Azure) as those have expanded. Facebook is not a provider of any meaningful business critical services, and therefore does not fit in this forum.

Wouldn't it be faster to create a mail filter to ignore outage notifications with social media platforms in the subject line than it would to write up an email complaining about it? Good grief.

Workplace, Facebook Connect, and Marketing (days before the biggest shopping day of the year) are all critical to enough people- perhaps not everyone, but enough individuals and businesses rely on it to make it critical to *them*. But I'd rather be able to tell customers that it's down for a large portion of users, than read 20+ emails about how its not important enough to be on this list. Discussing the worthiness of an outage shouldn't take more emails than discussing the actual outage. Which btw- NW Ohio here, mobile is slow but working... desktop is slower and images/posts aren't fully loading. I would encourage everyone to revisit the info page for the outages mailing list found here: https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/outages
*/"The purpose of this list is to have a central place to lookup and report so that end users & network operators know why their services (e-mail, phones, etc) went down eliminating the need to open tons of trouble tickets during a major event. One master ticket - such as fiber cut affect xxx OC48's would suffice. We hope this would empower users and network operators to post such events so that everyone could benefit from it. "/*
The list is for reporting outages on carrier networks and has grown to cloud services (AWS, Azure) as those have expanded. Facebook is not a provider of any meaningful business critical services, and therefore does not fit in this forum.

I think the point has been made that Facebook is relevant to certain businesses. The argument continues because many of us (myself included) joined this list with the intention of receiving network related outage notifications. Honest question: is it really that hard to create a second list and separate cloud services into one list and network outages into another? And Chris, I know you were joking in your email, but I actually agree with it. I think it's important to point out flaws so we can continually improve. Clearly there are people here that aren't happy with the list, so why not try to help improve it so we can eliminate these types of issues? Anywho, I'm done. I've made my point. It's not always obvious at the outset whether a network issue is at fault, or where that network issue might be. It's often useful to have multiple people report in with their location and ISP in hopes of triangulating the problem. A modest proposal: any post to outages@ that doesn't contain a traceroute (detectable by regex) should be automatically redirected to -discuss@. Damian

+1 Is dig acceptable, for DNS issues? (Yes, I'm joking. I'm always surprised that on a mailing list supposedly populated by NETWORK ENGINEERS AND OPERATORS, people report outages without any actual output from ping/traceroute/dig/similar, mentioning the city and not the AS, etc.)

It's an outage that appears to impact both Facebook and Instagram (and picked up by local news). https://www.ajc.com/news/national/facebook-instagram-down-for-some-users/gW3... Their status page eventually fails to load (with an FB-provided error, versus a browser-based timeout): https://developers.facebook.com/status/dashboard/ It also looks to be trending on DownDetector: https://downdetector.com/status/facebook It's in the Top 10 on Alexa, so my users tend to complain about service problems when they can't get to the site. tim On Tue, Nov 20, 2018 at 9:49 AM jimmy keffer via Outages < outages@outages.org> wrote:
