It looks like a DNS problem, at least at some level.
www.yahoo.com is a CNAME (for me) with RDATA www.wa1.b.yahoo.com.
wa1.b.yahoo.com is delegated to yf1.yahoo.com and yf2.yahoo.com.
Neither yf1.yahoo.com nor yf2.yahoo.com answer for me; my queries time out.

Several on NANOG are reporting the same, though it seems to be working for some.
Perception of brokenness might depend slightly on how recently www.yahoo.com was cached locally, especially for those who enforce a minimum TTL. One of the TorIX crew got through to the Yahoo! NOC who told them that there's a known DNS issue on the "east coast". Funny, the Atlantic is a 30 hour drive from here ;) Joe
