Anyone else having issues with Level3 in Dallas? Partial mtr and traceroute output follows from two different sources, getting massive packet loss once I hit 4.69.136.0/24. 10. te-4-4.car1.Atlanta2.Level3.net 0.0% 100 23.4 32.2 19.5 217.0 38.4 11. ae-62-51.ebr2.Atlanta2.Level3.net 0.0% 100 33.4 26.7 19.5 51.3 6.1 12. ae-73-70.ebr3.Atlanta2.Level3.net 0.0% 100 20.0 26.7 19.8 37.4 5.1 13. ae-7.ebr3.Dallas1.Level3.net 0.0% 100 38.1 36.2 28.7 61.2 5.7 14. ae-93-93.csw4.Dallas1.Level3.net 51.0% 100 29.7 35.4 29.1 68.9 6.5 15. ae-44-99.car4.Dallas1.Level3.net 44.4% 100 39.0 48.6 30.4 221.3 40.7 3 ge-6-1-112.car2.Atlanta1.Level3.net (4.71.22.21) 28.235 ms 23.889 ms 9.073 ms 4 ae-63-51.ebr3.Atlanta2.Level3.net (4.68.103.30) 25.302 ms 24.658 ms 270.658 ms 5 ae-7.ebr3.Dallas1.Level3.net (4.69.134.21) 28.374 ms 20.513 ms 32.204 ms 6 ae-83-83.csw3.Dallas1.Level3.net (4.69.136.162) 25.515 ms * * 7 ae-44-99.car4.Dallas1.Level3.net (4.68.19.198) 21.008 ms * *

does the packet loss continue after those hops? or does it look like routers with icmp rate limiting where forwarded traffic on the data plane is okay? On Jul 18, 2008, at 11:52 PM, Shaun <shaun@shaunc.com> wrote:

Could go either way. My traces last night showed PL all the way to the target, and a lot of * / !H / destination unreachable. Tonight I still see PL starting at the same point (ae-93-93.csw4.Dallas1.Level3.net), but ICMP to the destination is making it through, and I'm not having connectivity problems anymore. Something's still up in Dallas but it may be ICMP getting dropped on the floor. Not the norm, though, or at least it wasn't until lately ;) -s Craig Pierantozzi wrote:
