This is interesting - I didn't look long because it seemed to resolve pretty quickly, but the two things I noticed: - from my fios (Frontier) connection in the Tampa area I had a ton of packet loss into a VPS on Vultr in NJ - in NYC via Pilot, I saw sonicwall devices fail over due to not being able to reach Sonicwall's monitoring IP I get the Sonicwall issue as that's probably directly in the east to west coast path, but I guess the FL to NJ is just that Cogent is running things so close to the limit that whatever traffic was taking an alternate path overloaded that path? Anyhow, yeah, Cogent. Kind of surprised they're still around. Is there still an IPv6 partition with them? C

We experienced blips in connectivity across Lumen, Zayo, Cogent and Arelion in both Dallas and Ashburn during this time. Tom Sands On 8/14/25 8:25 PM, Charles Sprickman via Outages wrote:

Cogent's biggest problem is their ridiculously overly pushy "account managers" who won't take "No, we don;t want to use your crap, go away" for an answer. D On Fri, 15 Aug 2025 at 08:04, Mike Lyon via Outages <outages@outages.org> wrote:

I tell them to come back when they peer with HE. I got an email from them recently with something along the lines of "we know you won't take us since we don't peer with HE but what about if we offer a 10G circuit for free." I told them my response was the same. On Thu, Aug 14, 2025 at 8:45 PM DaZZa via Outages <outages@outages.org> wrote:

Our outage experience was eastern seaboard, specifically lines to VA and a DIA line in GA. GA-to-TX (layer-2) link did not go down. Rob++ -- Internet: windsor@warthog.com Life: Rob@Bailey.Colorado.USA.Earth "They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance." -- Major General John Sedgwick

Can confirm. I had lots of packet loss via my Cogent peer in 56M in ATL around 4:30 PM EST. Shut my peer down and waiting for an update from Cogent TAC. Heard the same from others in the south east who peer there as well, but I’ve heard it’s since cleared.
